Developing the Potential of Archipelago Orchids, FMIPA Establishes Cooperation with Pabongan Orchid

FMIPA UNS – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta has collaborated with Pabongan Orchid, an MSME engaged in the conservation of endemic orchids of the archipelago which is located at Pabongan Hamlet, Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso District, Karanganyar. The signing of the Cooperation Agreement was carried out in Meeting Room 2 Building C FMIPA on Friday (12/11/2021) morning by the Dean of FMIPA and the Owner of Pabongan Orchid, Mifta Khussurus, S. Hut.

Mifta Khussurur said that prior to the signing of this collaboration, there had been activities between FMIPA, especially Biology and Pabongan Orchid Study Programs, including that Pabongan Orchid could produce products in the form of orchid seeds with in vitro culture techniques due to the guidance of the Biology Study Program. Because the obstacle experienced by Pabongan Orchid is the breeding of orchids. As it is known that orchid seeds cannot be developed naturally.

“This collaboration is very helpful for us for the development of orchids by means of in vitro culture, and the benefits can already be felt by farmer groups in the surrounding environment in the form of plant supplies,” said Mifta

Mifta is also ready if the place is used as a location for student activities, both for research and student internships.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the MIPA Faculty, Drs. Harjana, M.Si, M.Sc.,Ph.D. hope that this collaboration can run and continue to synergize the potential of each party in order to obtain maximum results in flora conservation activities, especially orchids endemic to the archipelago.
