With the theme of waste indigenous coffee oil, Yochipeace Ahsanitaqwim (Biology), Zaqiah Yuniati (Biology) and Silmi Macheasy (Physics) became the first winners of the event, beating teams from various well-known universities.
The local coffee grounds that we mean as stated by Yochipeace are like the brewed dregs of gayo coffee, toraja coffee, javanese coffee, flores, kintamani, and others where the production and consumption of local coffee is very abundant in Indonesia.
Still according to Yochipeace, the potential of local coffee grounds oil is very good in supporting the brain development of fetuses and toddlers (babies under three years). Waste Indigenous Coffee Oil (WI-Fee Oil) is planned to be made as a health supplement for pregnant women and toddlers.
Clinical trials from previous studies only looked at the fatty acid composition and physicochemical properties of coffee grounds oil in general, but have not been tested in vivo regarding their relationship with human brain development.
“Therefore, as a follow-up effort from us, we will submit a PKM PE proposal with the big theme to be tested on the memory performance of rat brains,” concluded Yochipeace. [MnR]
